We are all hoping that 2022 will offer more opportunities for face-to-face exhibitions and trade shows than we have seen over the last couple of years. We have managed like the rest of the world to ensure we stay connected through online means but there really is no substitute for seeing model railways layouts in the flesh. Let’s take a look at some of the upcoming events we can look forward to this year.
Event highlights
We’re kicking off the year with the Frome Model Railway Exhibition 8th to 9th January. The first post Covid event held by the WAMRC will be showcasing layouts, refreshments and plenty more at the Cheese and Grain, Market Yard in Frome. There'll be no time to catch your breath before the Bognor Regis model railway exhibition at Felpham Community College. Running from the 15th to the 16th of January visitors will enjoy trade support, a chance to interact with societies plus 18 layouts so we really do have a fantastic start to the year. Across the border in the final weekend of January we have the Kilmarnock and District model railway clubs 2022 exhibition to be held at the Scottish Maritime Museum in Irvine. For anyone who fancies a bit of spring sunshine March 12th-13th is the main Italian model fair in Verona Italy. The 17th Fiera model Expo Italy features stands, shows and events that are organised into different areas where visitors can enjoy not just model railways but aircraft, cars and ships. A real treat for lovers of model building.
There really is something for everybody every month of the year and in most areas of the UK. It’s a chance to not just see layouts that we’ve all been missing but to interact with the model railway enthusiast community. This sharing of passion and knowledge is so important to all of us. Hopefully this year will see some kind of return to normality. Once again we had to deal with the disappointment of the cancellation of the Warley National Model Railway exhibition at the NEC in Birmingham. Sadly in the current climate the risk was considered too difficult to ensure a successful, quality experience for visitors and exhibitors. We are hopeful this will go ahead 26 to 27th of November later in the year.
If you are one of those who will be exhibiting then you’ll want to make sure all your hard work is seen by other enthusiasts. When you are part of a trade show or exhibition with multiple exhibitors then you’re going to see a decent sized banner so visitors know where you are. If you are hoping to get local footfall through the door then are there any locations where you could stick up a poster advertising the event? On the day you want to make sure you have a decent pop up stand that will grab the attention of the crowds and ensure everyone comes over to see your layout.
